How to make Tulle Pom Poms

UPDATE: I found a faster way to create these. CLICK HERE

Wouldn't these look so cute in a nursery?
How to make Tulle Pom Poms...
You will need a book, scissors, tulle, ribbon, and a rubber band (not pictured).

Wrap the tulle around the book 20 times

Cut the tulle in the center, then flip the book over and cut the tulle in the center again. (Or just cut the sides)
Remove the book and place the tulle on top of each other.
Gather the tulle and wrap the rubber band tightly in the center of the tulle.
Cut and knot your ribbon through the rubber band.
Separate and fluff your tulle to form a ball.
To make a slightly bigger ball wrap your tulle around the book long ways.
Hang them anywhere! ♥ In the nursery for a unique look and to give the baby something interesting to look at. ♥ As baby shower decorations. ♥ Or Wedding Shower decorations♥ And they are made from tulle which will last longer than the ones made out of tissue paper.
Did you spy something in that picture above??
Madison playing under the crib and yes I cleaned that dust off :)

Now it's time to get tutu creative in Maddie's room.

  1. I have a question. If you can't find tulle by the spool and want to buy it by the yard, how would you do it?

  2. If you can't find a spool of tulle how many yards should a person buy? Would you just cut them out in rectangles and then follow your other directions? Do you know how many pieces of tulle are in one ball? Just curious how many rectangles I would have to cut out. I could probably do multiple colors that way.

sorry if this comment came up multiple times. I first tried just my name and didn't see it show. :)

  3. NOt a problem :D

Thanks for the question. One yard would be enough. Just cut into strips at 6in wide by however big you want your ball. My biggest ball is 10 inches, so my rectangle is 6 X 10 inches. I wished I would have gone bigger. The bigger the ball the more tulle you will need. I have 40 strips of 6 x 10in pieces of tulle in my biggest ball.

If you have anymore questions please let me know!

  7. Thanks Tiffany! I am so happy you liked my tutorial :) I've actually never seen another one. I am going to google them right now. I'd love to see how they do it. I got the idea from the tissue pom poms and just thought tulle would work so much better and last a lot longer. We all know I'm a tulle lover so it just worked for me :)

I'm your newest follower too :)

  8. I also googled tulle pom poms and found you. They are quite expensive to buy (especially when you want 20). I'm not crafty but wanted to see if I could make them. Thanks for the easy directions. I want to make 20 pom poms in large size (17 inch each). How much tulle do you recken I should get?

    1. I am making tulle Pom balls for my wedding. I found a site that sells bulk tulle in bolts and spools. I think a bolt with 100 yards of tulle was $5.35 from B. B. Crafts. Great deals. I think I may have bought too much, but I'm not quite sure how many I will need to make several to decorate my venue, but better safe than sorry! Soon my floor will be filled with poms! :)

  11. How would you put the blue and brown colors together?

    ReplyDelete
  12. To mix the brown and blue cut each color seperate then place the brown inbetween the blue before you add your ribbon. I am redoing this tutorial because I have a much easier and faster way to create it. Come back in the next few days to find it or subscribe to this blog via email to get the new "how to make a tulle pom-pom tutorial" straight to your inbox.

  26. Hey! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are
you using for this site? I'm getting tired of Wordpress because I've had problems with
hackers and I'm looking at alternatives for another platform. I would be great if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
